Effects of fishery and environmental factors on a novel multispecies pot targeting European lobster (Homarus gammarus), Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) and edible crab (Cancer pagurus)

چکیده

Small-scale fisheries along the Swedish west coast are often operated by using small vessels, targeting multiple species means of pots and gillnets. Fisheries shellfish such as European lobster ( Homarus gammarus) , edible crab Cancer pagurus ) have a relatively high economic value. However, gillnet demersal fish currently diminishing primarily due to depleted stocks increased seal depredation. considered sustainable use selective gears low energy consumption. To be able retain promote small-scale fishery, there is need develop an economically viable where selective, seal-safe gear utilized. One potential way forward could pot used for target traditionally caught in Since both cod (Gadus morhua) can pots, objective this work was multispecies lobster, cod. Seven multi-species were developed tested off Sweden between 2015 2017. The catch rate, defined per day (CPUE) cod, evaluated taking into regard fisheries-related variables type, bait, soak time, damage abundance pot. relative CPUE highest larger with two chambers three open entrances. 0.24 individuals 0.17 Pots entrances equipped funnels, preventing from escaping, also had (0.23 per). crabs not affected type. For crab, significantly decreased increasing time. Seal only occurred when trapped higher subjected damage, indicating that seals raid specifically cods inside.

Diseases of the European edible crab (Cancer pagurus): a review

The edible crab (Cancer pagurus) supports an important fishery in European waters. The fishery is increasing in size and in relative importance as stocks of marine finfish decline. Despite its importance, though, studies on the pathogens and parasites of this crab species are relatively lacking compared with studies of commercially exploited finfish and molluscan hosts. Recent basic surveys of ...

Iodine nutrition and toxicity in Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) larvae

Copepods as feed promote better growth and development in marine fish larvae than rotifers. However, unlike rotifers, copepods contain several minerals such as iodine (I), at potentially toxic levels. Iodine is an essential trace element and both under and over supply of I can inhibit the production of the I containing thyroid hormones. It is unknown whether marine fish larvae require copepod l...

Authentication of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) using real time PCR.

This work describes the development of a real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) system for the detection and identification of Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). Among the advantages of this technique, it is worth highlighting that this is reliable in terms of specificity and sensitivity. The TaqMan real-time PCR is the simplest, fastest testing process and has the highest potential for automat...

Effects of turbidity on the spontaneous and prey-searching activity of juvenile Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua).

Increasing turbidity in coastal waters in the North Atlantic and adjacent seas has raised concerns about impacts on Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) using these areas as nurseries. A previous experiment (Meager et al. 2005 Can. J. Fish. Aquat. Sci. 62, 1978-1984) has shown that turbidity (up to 28 beam attenuation m-1) had little effect on the foraging rate of juvenile cod. Although this was attribu...

Description of Embryogenesis of Atlantic Cod Gadus Morhua

This paper presents a description of the embryonic development of Atlantic cod Gadus morhua. In addition, an equation describing the effect of temperature on developmental rate was developed. The whole period of embryogenesis was divided into 6 subperiods and 75 specific stages based on the distinctive characteristics. Temperature effects on the developmental rate of Atlantic cod embryos were s...
